Montage Initiative is a 501(C)(3) Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). In support of the UN SDG’s (Sustainable Development Goals) and MDG’s (Millennium Development Goals), MI participates through Annual Programs along with sponsorships of Parallel and Side Events held at the UN-NY Headquarters, including annual participation on the Condition of the Status of Women (CSW); annual March 8th Commemorations of International Women’s Day; annual participation on International Youth Conferences that include Engaging with the UN Department of Global Communications, Civil Society Youth Engagement at the United Nations, Gender and Climate, and UN Youth Dialog by the General Assembly.

UNITED NATIONS ACTIVITIES

Previous Initiatives taken by Montage Initiative in support of the Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals include advocacy and awareness raising events that Montage Initiative hosts, organizes or partners in, emphasizing the role of development and peace.

  • Montage Initiative’s work in India focuses on educating (SDG 4), supporting and training women to earn sustainable livelihoods (SDG 8) to overcome poverty (SDG 1).
  • Youth empowerment opportunities for young people emphasize education and capacity building (SDG 4). Montage Initiative contributed to MDG’s 1, 3 and 8, engaging students from Fairfield University’s service learning courses in Web Development through in-service learning activities, where 20 students participated with hands-on projects.
  • Partnered with Girl Scouts on a Tech Hackathon to educate and train girls on tech skills.
  • Annual participation at the CSW, centering on the empowerment of women and gender equality (SDG 5).
  • Numerous panels, events, and youth centered activities bring the inclusion of youth in peace and politics through panel events (SDG 16).
  • Montage Initiative ensures that its activities are conducted in environmentally sustainable ways, while promoting environmental sustainability.
  • Collaboration with the World Toilet Summit, focusing on water, sanitation and menstrual hygiene (SDG 3).
  • Montage Initiative’s Student Advisory Board participated in climate strikes and climate-related events, including Climate Reality Training in 2020 (SDGs 6, 13, 14).
  • Our activities involve partner civil society organizations and universities that also have UN ECOSOC Consultative Status or are in affiliation with UN DGC, supporting SDG 17 on partnership.
  • During COVID19 in 2020, Montage Initiative co-hosted the High-Level Youth Summit on Sustainable Development, alongside the UN75 office and UN DGC.
  • Sent speakers to the 2020 Forum on Modern Direct Democracy. These online events gathered 500 – 2000 views from attendees with each event.
  • Signed a WFWP (Women’s Federation for World Peace) CSW62 Written Statement; Member of the WFWPI Honorary Committee for CSW63 (established to provide valuable input for the WFWPI UN Office in New York related to their participation in the 63rd Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW63).
  • Montage Initiative continues to support the Global Alliance for empowering under-privileged women “The Last Woman First”. The Alliance collaborates in advocacy initiatives at the United Nations, uniting the aspiration of widows into one powerful and indomitable voice.
